do you enjoyt the bleak and the sordid? are you literate? have pretentions to pretentiousness?

Super Exciting Happy FunTime Productions presents . . .

The Totally Rad 2007 Secular Winter Holiday Internets Book Club!

Improve yourself--Read a fucking great book!

The novel in question will most likely be Emile Zola's Germinal, "the thirteenth novel in the twenty-volume series Les Rougon-Macquart. Usually considered Zola's undisputed masterpiece and one of the greatest novels ever written in the French language, the novel - an uncompromisingly harsh and realistic story of a coalminers' strike in northern France in the 1860s - has been published and translated in over one hundred countries as well as inspiring five film adaptations and two TV productions."

Feel S-M-R-T and better than hoi polloi! Revel in your pretension! Pretend you're a Francophone!

Zola is one of my favorite authors, and if you haven't experienced him, you really should (also recommended by me, SaraFist: L'Assommoir and Nana). This will be no dull experience like Les Miserables, I promise you. Remember what Ibsen said: "Zola descends into the sewer to bathe in it, I to cleanse it."
Hooray for bathing in the gutter!

If interested, PM me. If not, you suck and I hate you, you illiterate cow. Also, please repost to anyone you think might be interested.

It'll be fucking TRANSCENDENTAL.

PS: I wanted to say "fucking" just one more time in my promotion of literature.
