what a cunt

Warning: Work rant

One of the things we sell is software. You can either download it, or buy a CD. It's $20 either way (plus shipping if you get the CD) so it's not very expensive shit. If you download it, you have three attempts, and 90 days to download it. Once it's on your computer, it's your responsibility to back it up on a CD and not lose it. If people are having trouble and need more than 3 attempts to download, we'll help them out. But we do not let people redownload after 90 days. We do this to try and prevent abuse. We already know our software is traded on bit torrent, but you do what you can. We make people read and agree to this EULA before they purchase the software.

Anyway, this woman bought some software two and a half years ago. She sent us this email with a sob story saying that her computer crashed and she can't find the CD. She didn't ask if she could redownload the software, she demanded. Since it was so old, and since the software has changed significantly since her purchase, we told her she would need to repurchase. Her response?

"You have no right to talk down to me! I am just asking for a new copy of the same product that was only downloaded one time.  I will be going with someone else for my service needs.  I believe this is very poor customer service."

What the fuck ever.

Look, if your computer hard drive crashes and you can't find your install disk for the copy of MS Office you bought over two years ago, do you think Microsoft is going to give you another? No, because it's your own damn fault that you lost it. Nobody who sells software online offers perpetual free downloads of the software that you purchased. Our system is actually pretty standard. Some places don't even let you download it more than once after you've gotten it successfully. We give people three chances and three months to get it right. And the software actually needs to be booted from a CD to be used, so there's no excuse for not having a backup. NO EXCUSE.
