Hi, Scott... I'm an idiot.

So when somebody needs a repair, they order the service online and ship the unit to us. We offer shipping materials, because not everybody has their original box that the DVR came in, or maybe they just can't find a suitable box. Either way, it's a heck of a deal. For $20 you get a box and prepaid return shipping. The materials cost us $6, and more often than not the shipping of the box to and from the customer costs us more than the $14 difference.

But for the stubborn few who neither have their original DVR box, nor want to purchase ours, I have a strongly worded email for them regarding how they MUST package their equipment. To sum it up:

- 2-3 inches of cushion surrounding all sides of the unit
- NO FOAM PEANUTS (because they create static electricity, and they let the unit settle to the bottom of the box, defeating the purpose)
- No crumpled paper
- No air cells (because they deflate)

Should be simple, right? Well, apparently it's not. I just got a unit and here's why I'm upset:

So there's no padding on the side or bottom of the unit. Also, what padding the customer did use on the top was crumpled paper, and (deflated) air cells. I can almost guarantee that those connectors you can see will have some broken contact points on the motherboard. Awesome! extra work!

And there, sitting under the wad of paper and air cells, was a print out of the email in which I explained to her NOT TO DO EXACTLY WHAT SHE DID

she should have used that printed email and wadded it up for padding on the connectors.
