You're welcome

so I just got a call from a customer.

cust: "yeah I just got a DVR back from you guys. My order number was _____"

me: "Okay, yes we sent that back to you on Monday. Was there something I could help you with?"

cust: "Well, there weren't any notes or anything in the box explaining what kind of work you did."

me: "Well, you sent us your unit for repair. It was fixed. It should be working now. Is it not working?"

cust: "But how was it fixed? Did you guys replace the hard drive, power supply, motherboard. What did you do?"

me: "Because your unit did not work at all when we received it, it was sent off to a 3rd party for extensive repair, and they returned it to you when they were done. They don't usually tell me what they do to the units. I could find out if you really want me to, but is there a reason you need to know specifically what was done?"

cust: "Well I spent all this money (only $99 for component level electronics repair) and I'd kind of like to know what work was done to it. It's like a car. When you get your car fixed the repairman tells you what he did. Nevermind. I guess I'll just unpack the unit and try it out. If there are any problems I'll be in touch."

*hangs up*

So the fucking guy didn't even try the unit out before he called me up to complain about not having a detailed description of the work that was done. His unit didn't even turn on when we got it. It works like it's brand new now. He paid a flat rate repair fee, so it's not like he was over charged. In fact, he probably got a good deal because units like his cost the most to get working again. What a fucking douche bag.

I mean, I suppose I could have just said the 32V lead from your power supply was jumped directly to the C302 capacitor on the mother board because the J02 connector was bad, and the T01 transformer had shorted out and was replaced, along with several other current sensitive components on this board (all surface mounted) that are notorious for burning out from power surges. But what the fuck is he going to do with that information aside from pretend that he even remotely understands any of it? Seriously?

And no, car mechanics do not give you detailed descriptions of what they do when they fix your car. They say "Hey, your control arm bushing needs to be replaced. That will cost $____" and then they fix it. They don't give you a step-by-step run down of how they did it.

Yes Scott, but what exactly was broken on the unit that needed to be repaired?
