idiots
So I installed a drive into a customer's unit last week and sent it back to him. It was working when we sent it out. A few days after he received it, the guy says it's not working... we have a warranty policy, so we had to fix whatever's wrong with it. He claims that it overheated and stopped working, and when he opened it up he noticed the fan wasn't plugged in. When he plugged it back in, it didn't work. It's possible that I forgot to plug the fan back in, but also unlikely.
Besides, the Tivos have built in temperature sensors. If they overheat, they shut down. They don't fry themselves. So something else was going on. We took fault for it, and paid for him to ship it back to us. I just got it back now, and I think there's more to the story... the guy had everything inside of it disconnected. The front panel was taken off, which is almost impossible to do without breaking the plastic retaining clips (which is how I know) and the white ribbon cable was disconnected.
This guy was fucking around with the unit when he got it back, couldn't put it back together again, and blamed it on us. I have to take the fall for it because I did the install... There's no fucking way a TiVo could kill itself to the level that this thing did just from one little unplugged fan.
ARGH!@!@#($!($!!!!
I should also mention that when we originally received the unit before the install, the fan wasn't plugged in either. I make notes of these things. Personally, I want to go office space on this thing, refund the guy's money, and tell him to stop fucking with us... but that'll never happen.

BTW I totally resurrected it from the dead. power supplies in eight year old series one TiVos are not easy to replace.
