People who want to get stabbed, #207

I just got this email:

----
I just got the DVR back. Two things.. One- I need whoever has the old hard drive to send it back today. I did not say anyone could keep it. Second. I plugged it in and turned it on at 12:30, it is now 12:45 THERE IS ABSOLUTLEY NO DIFFERENCE!!! IT STILL DOES NOT WORK!!!!! Call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx as soon as you get this to verify that first the original hard drive is being sent today and second to verify that you understand I have told my credit card company to deny ALL charges to you. I paid for a service that has obviously not been performed. Call me NOW!!!
----

I spent fifteen minutes on the phone with this guy. I really don't want to get into it... but this guy has a very cynical view of the world. Something doesn't work? Somebody must be trying to rip him off! Nevermind that he's got a fucking SIX MONTH WARRANTY on the repair, and if it doesn't work then we have a responsibility to make it right or refund his money. But did he want to go down the reasonable path? No. He shot first and then asked questions later.

Pro-tip: Never threaten a retailer with a credit card charge back. You could either begrudgingly get what you want, or get nothing. Charge backs are not instant refunds, and they are not guaranteed. The retailer can fight them. We can easily fight this one, because we have a warranty advertised for the service, and he did not give us an opportunity to rectify the situation. You are not entitled to a refund because you don't want to deal with a warranty. But instead of fighting it, I just had to convince him to drop the charge back and send the unit back to us, because I'd rather see the thing working than deal with his bank. But I could have easily told him to go fuck himself, and also successfully fought the charge back. I didn't let him know that though.

For the record, I've been working here since Sept of '07. Of the many hundreds of repairs I've done, only three have ever shown up not working when the customer gets it back. One of those actually ended up being a bad surge protector, which is probably what broke the unit in the first place. Another was something that we overlooked the first time we had it, because the customer never told us that it wasn't working. But we managed to fix it when we got the unit back, and it's been working ever since. The third one is this fuck face, which I have yet to even verify.

Oh, also we don't return known bad hard drives. The customer can't (and shouldn't) do anything with them, so there's no point in paying for an extra two pounds when we ship the unit back. This is all explained on our site. This guy is just an idiot, and has deluded himself into thinking that because his drives works "sometimes" that it's still okay.

I fucking hate people. All of them. I honestly don't give a shit about the world ending anymore. Good fucking riddance if you ask me.
