Please disregard the above:

ANYWAY-I attempted to have a conversation about the Academy Awards last night. I asked if she had seen them last night. She says

"Oh. No. I don't like watching it. I mean, I've never watched it, but I don't want to."

"Uh...why?"

"I'd rather just read the magazines the next morning to see what they wore."

"Oh."

"I mean, I could really care less. They're just actors. I don't care about those kind of movies anyway."

I guess I just have a healthy respect for the art and all the work involved. That really bugged me. What a stupid piece of fluff.

I actually even tried talking about Sam Worthington. Its bad enough that she didn't know who I was talking about. I said "Well, he was in Terminator:Salvation, Avatar, and he's gonna be in Clash of the Titans"

"Oh, I don't like those kinds of movies."

What.

I hate awards shows. Especially the academy awards. I don't think not watching some awards show where only the industry elite are allowed to decide what's good and what isn't good is disrespectful to the art. I think the award show itself is what disrespects the art.

Its just the fact that she said "I've never bothered watching it, but I don't like it." That's a retarded fucking mentality.

And either way, I'm sure her reason for not watching it is not as thought through as this. Its more of a "waaah its boring these movies are stupid because its boring waah".

meh... makes sense to me. Just because she hasn't watched it, doesn't mean that she doesn't know it's a three hour long show where people arbitrarily hand out awards and make stupid speeches.

I got home as they were talking about Meryl Streep. I said, "Oh is it handjob time?"

I actually caught bits and pieces at work and saw some clips of movies I never heard of that looked really interesting.

This is actually one of my reasons for watching the show. There are some movies that for whatever reason, I didn't really get to hear about. Especially the animated ones. If it wasn't for the Oscars, I probably wouldn't have seen Persepolis.

I have to agree that watching the Academy Awards show last night was boring. I baked chocolate chip walnut cookies instead. It's a group of people that work with each other all the time, go to each others private functions, and then they get on stage to tell the world how great their group of friends are.

Persepolis was a great movie. But the only reason I watched it was because a while ago someone on this message board recommended it.

I kind of hate the Oscars for various reasons, but at the same time, I seek validation from them and cheer on my picks to win. I don't really understand why.

When the Dawn of the Dead remake came our a coworker and I were talking about it and this lady in her mid thirties walked up and asked us what we were talking about. I said Oh we just saw the Dawn of the Dead have you seen it? Her exact words were "I don't see movies like that, I'm Christian". All I could say was ok......I was confused.
