Anyone into reading dreams? I dreamed that either I had a foot amputated or only had one foot. Someone of those dream interpretation websites are interesting. Some of them are leading to psychics and other things but some of them are neat.
Supposedly, dreams are your unconscious mind working through daily stresses and intense feelings you may not address in your life. However, this is heavily debated by psychologist and scientists. Freud, of course, believes dreams are all intertwined with our sexual fantasies. Whereas, Jung believes they are far too complicated to even interpret as having any purpose.
If you would like to try and interpret your dreams, my psychology of dreams professor in my undergrad recommended, keep a notebook and pen right next to our bed. Immediately upon waking, before even opening your eyes and stretching or taking in your environment, grab the notebook and pen and start writing as much detail as you possibly can. Try to remember people, places, colors, feelings, etc. Track your dreams for a week or so and then compare to recent issues in your life. You may start to see a pattern and correlation. However, unless you are woken during a REM stage of sleep it becomes more difficult to remember your dreams. I've never tried this, but my professor did it for 10 years or so (he was a little crazy though). In truth, there's not much dreams can tell you that you do not already know. I suppose it could be interesting to keep track of dreams over the years though, as it can become the journal of your unconscious mind.
Now if you have a reoccurring frightening dream, usually from a severely traumatic experience, you can work with a shrink to analyze it and work through the experience that is causing the dream.
